Lucky Spot
This is an extremely cool piece of work by Stella McCartney. Lucky Spot can be seen at Belsay Hall in Northumberland. It’s a shame it’s not nearer to London, it would be fantastic to see it up close!
The year 2008 in photographs
Andy H posted this link on the Orangutan Studio Blog, I have to agree with him, it is amazing photography!
Doctor?
This version by Orbital is almost as creepy as the original! The memories…
MIESROLO
weird?
i’ve just been going through my links on del.icio.us and found an item I posted last may, here’s the main image:
the picture shows a collage by the well known graffiti artist space invader attached to the side of a random building. i started working at os last november, six months after tagging this image, only to find that the building with the collage is next door to where i work! of all of the space invader collages in the country I happen to tag this one. weird huh?!
say hello to our new house;
don’t be fooled we haven’t won the lottery or anything, we are the proud renters a one bedroomed flat which takes up a corner of the basement. a bit depressing as our rent is a third more expensive than our apartment in Manchester and it’s half as small. quality over quantity and as we’ve not hope of buying it’ll do for now!
Exposure!
D&AD New Blood
Today was the launch of Pollinator, North Wales School of Art & Designs graduation showcase. I presented Virgin Burst, Glimmer and the Virgin boards that I sent in to the YCN competition (should get the results soon!!!), it seems my work has made an impression as I was chosen by the schools head of design to be one of the students to represent NWSAD at this years D&AD New Blood exhibition down in London.
I’ve also had some interest on the job front, I have two interviews and the possibility of another one on the way. It’s all very exciting!!
Final Work
I’ve finally finished my degree (except for the show) so I’ve uploaded my completed projects. I am hoping to continue with them both as personal projects. See what you think…
Crazy Crazy Madness!
I feel bad on my poor neglected blog it’s been nearly a week since my last post, I haven’t a clue where this week has gone! Probably has something to do with assessments being the day after tomorrow, I’m sure the days are passing two at a time! It’s now nearly Monday morning and I’ve been staring at this screen for well over 15 hours, as you can imagine I’m not really seeing straight at the moment
Hopefully it will be worth it and I won’t fail my degree! I have four sections of a presentation and some paperwork to complete tomorrow and that’s it, wahoo.
It is going to be very strange not being a student any more, but I’m sure our night out on Tuesday will ease the passing
Anyway, it’s a stupidly early start for me in the morning so I’d best be off!
Relocation Relocation!
It’s been one hectic week! We headed over to Manchester on Monday evening in the hope of finding a new place for when we leave Wrexham in two weeks, the original plan was to stay until Wednesday evening after my interview with a recruitment agency. As it happens we managed to finally arrive back in Wrexham on Saturday afternoon, I think our neighbour thought we’d moved out! After a long week of job hunting, interviews, property viewings and getting lost in the car not to mention the two new tires I had to purchase for my car, it seemed a bit odd returning back to Wrexham. At least we now have a place to live sorted out, I just have to find a job to pay for it
The move date is set for the beginning of June, just enough time to get next Tuesday’s assessments out of the way.
Here’s some new stuff I’ve added to my portfolio section:
I’ve also reordered the page a little I think the new way makes more sense.
A Thing Of Beauty
I’m ashamed to say that I’m relatively new to the world of converse, I never really gave them a second look, until now that is. The latest of my two pair collection has finally arrived from the states (couldn’t find them over here), I am now the proud owner of two pairs of Sailor Jerry style Chuck’s and I have another two pairs on the list for my next purchase already! Here’s my latest arrival:
Here’s my other pair to make up the set:

First Thursday Blog
First Thursday is a student lead monthly event that takes place (you guessed it) on the first Thursday of every month at the North Wales School of Art & Design, a very popular event too with all sorts of work, installations and exhibitions happening, well worth a visit! Because the nights are such a great thing for NWSAD Danielle (aka The Jiggery Pokery) a fellow student and I decided that a weblog would be a fantastic way for students and lecturers to share their views and opinions about the event, and also provide the opportunity to big it up online
Don’t hesitate to join in!

Fancy A Stroll?
Have a go at walk2web it doesn’t take long, it’s informative and more importantly you don’t get achy legs or blisters, but most of all it’s good clean fun, that’s if you are not too depressed about the lack of sites linking to yours

New Books mmmm…
I’ve been buying a lot of books lately and am in two minds whether or not to put up my book list, I think you can tell a lot about a person by the books they buy, I say buy and not read because chance would be a fine thing. Nevertheless I will read them eventually but until then they are nice to look at in times of need.
My latest arrivals that were delivered yesterday are; Flash Math Creativity and The Ten Commandments of Typography, I read the typography one last night it didn’t take long, there’s not really that much too it well as far as intricate type information goes as it’s mainly just examples of typography. The Flash one looks good on first glance though and I’m looking forward to getting stuck into it although I am probably going to have to wait until my uni course is over first.
Check This Out
Have a look at Polar Clock a great looking Actionscript clock by Pixel Breaker which is also available for download as a screensaver. The visual language is so simple it’s brilliant! It’s also got great movement the way it flows outwards from the centre.

What An Interesting Question
To submit to threadless or not to submit to threadless that is the question! And whether or not to colour it in is an even bigger question, any suggestions?
Where Have I Been?!
Seems I’m a late comer to the last.fm music revolution, never the less I got there in the end, check out my profile. If anyone has any good music suggestions post them up, I’m always looking for new sounds! I’m getting into World Music at the moment especially Indian Electronica, I’ve been listening to artist like Karsh Kale and MIDIval punditZ which are pretty cool! There’s only two issues I have; the lack of a pause button seriously annoying if you want to pop to the loo also there doesn’t seem to be an option to listen to the actual artist you type in, maybe I missed that?
Drop by and say hi if you have an account, and if you don’t you should seriously consider getting one.
Another good music site is pandora.com however, as it’s an American company there doesn’t seem to be as much of a selection. However there is a pause button, and you can search by song title aswell as the artists name which is good for a more refined search.
Latest Experiments
Here’s some experiments I’ve been doing for my stack interface. I’ve been playing around with fridge magnets and a radiator for inspiration, I was quite pleased with the result so I took them into Photoshop and played around with the colours, these are what I ended up with.
I’m not sure whether I will use any of them I just thought that they were pretty.
Field Trips
Field trips? What an excuse for a day off! Which is definitely not what I did yesterday
I even have proof!
Let me explain; yesterday I went on a “field trip” to the Panorama in Llangollen, for those of you who don’t know of it (everyone outside of Wrexham) it’s a long drive up a very winding narrow path, but it’s worth it when you reach the top and see the breath taking views of the Welsh countryside. Back to the point… At the moment I am doing a project for a new blog interface that works using RSS feeds, I have most of the technical aspects figured out in that it will take the form of a stack which contains a hierarchy of information. Aesthetically the project is nowhere near ready, so to move it onwards I have gone back to the visual research stage to add a bit of life into it, which brings me back to the panorama. As you can see in my flickr set at the top of panorama is a series of rock structures which are made up of fantastic layered rocks and shelves creating all kinds of patterns and formations. I have always had an interest in natural forms and the use of these forms and materials in design so it seemed like a natural progression for me to begin looking in this area.
On a completely unrelated note…
We went to see 300 last night and it was fantastic! It looked great the story was great, the dialogue was a bit cheesy in parts but it was still great. I recommend that you go and see it, definitely not one for the girly girls though.
