On my bike!

The 2008 London Bikeathon was completed on Sunday with three new additions, I must say I was taken aback by the amount of people gathering at the starting line, there were thousands (I managed to get a few pics that i’ll post up once I find my camera cable). Perhaps not as many as I’d imagine the Marathon would attract (something that will forever remain only in my imagination!) but still a substantial amount! I noticed the rider numbers went well past the 7 thousand mark.
The weather was fantastic, lovely and sunny but not too hot so the ride was pretty comfortable, my bike suffered somewhat with a creaky pedal but it didn’t hinder the journey.
We decided to pass up the opportunity of extending our ride to the 26 mile much to my disappointment but a rather badly planned shopping delivery cut short our time so we wouldn’t have completed the circuit.
Unfortunately my rather poor attempt at fundraising rendered my participation as pretty useless except for the £10 I got from my lovely brother and the £10 entry free, I just hope the tshirt, medal and refreshments didn’t wipe out my small contribution!
All in all, it was a fantastic experience and we got to see a bit more of London, the quays round the tobacco dock were a nice addition to the route and the detour from the roads although not very busy was a nice break.
Next year we plan to do the 26 mile route, maybe even the 52 it just depends on how fit we get from a year of riding to and from work and how good our new bikes will be.
