Flickr Has It’s Uses!

Posted in the old student days by michelle-b on the March 27th, 2007

I was recently approached through Flickr by the producer of the North East Wales branch of the BBC website asking if some of my pictures of the construction site at Eagle’s Meadow in Wrexham could be used and linked to from the BBC website. It’s a working progress documenting the sites growth so hopefully I should have more images going up soon! Here’s the first one to be added:

On a completely different note, check this amazing music site: www.pandora.com just type in your favourite artist, let it do all of the work then listen to a completely original playlist, it certainly beats listening to all your exhausted Itunes playlists!

Seems not all students are as hard working as others ;)

Great Stuff

I found out today that my brainfluff site design and the illustration I did called “Friday Night” have both been featured on the multimedia page of NWSAD’s website, which can only be good :D

Myself and another student have also been entrusted with the site and blog design for the school’s first thursday events which is great news and my Virgin Mobile brief is going fantastically, I would even go so far as to say it’s the best project I have ever done!

I have a work experience visit tomorrow at View Creative a design agency based in Conwy, North Wales. I’m hoping I will be able to get a work placement there, but if not it’s a great opportunity to see what they think of my portfolio.

I’ve been pretty busy lately with uni work and other projects I have on the go, so I’ve been a bit rubbish with Flickr, threadless and my site, which unfortunately is set to continue for a little while longer especially as the competition deadlines are coming up :( But not to worry I’ve got a few little bits and bobs happening so there should be some new stuff coming up soon.

Experimental Mental

I’ve been playing around with Actionscript lately looking at external input from a microphone, here’s an interesting example:

I’m hoping to get access to a webcam that is compatible with my mac so that I can start experimenting with video in Flash, and interacting with Actionscript via a webcam, inspired by such Flash Guru’s as Brendan Dawes and Grant Skinner.

The Latest

The scoring is complete for my threadless submission, it didn’t do too badly for a first submission scoring a semi decent 1.91 (the highest I’ve seen in a 3.66) it didn’t do as well I was hoping but I’m not going to let that put me off though, I have plenty more illustrations in my book ready for upload and got lots of positive feedback, including some constructive criticism about the colour combo it was a bit bright, so with that in mind next time I’ll upload the design in several colour variations and see how it gets on, with probably a male and female version.

My Virgin Mobile brief is moving along OK after hitting a stumbling block, more like a wall in the form of design meets concept issues. It’s all sorted and moving along smoothly once more!

It was the fourth First Thursday event at the North Wales School of Art & Design tonight, it went well and has inspired us third years to pull our fingers out and take part in the next one on Thursday 5th April. We did originally plan to take part in this one but with our dissertation deadline being this week and having reading week recently too, we didn’t have time to arrange everything we needed. But it’s a definite for next month. If any of you are in the Wrexham area on that day you should pop in and take a look, it’s not limited to students and it’s free! Plus you can come and say hello to us.

I may even be trying my hand at a bit of teaching next Thursday, us third years are planning on doing a WordPress talk with the second years of the Interactive Multimedia and Digital Media courses. Just about the basics really from planning a weblog to coding, general design tips and how our sites have evolved etc. Which reminds me, this one is still due for a few changes, the presentation could do with an update.

I’ve finally got my CV sorted here’s the download.

As always, I’ll keep you posted.
