Professional Practice
As part of my uni course I am required to complete a professional practice module made up of work placements or live industry briefs. It’s a five week module of which I was hoping to spend on a placement or a couple of placements. However in case I don’t manage to get that amount of time within a company, today I did my first ever pitch for a freelance project. I must say it was a nerve racking experience trying to communicate an idea (which was largely still in my head) in front of seven people (including fellow students). Despite my nerves I got my idea across well and they seemed interested. I just have to wait now to see if my idea is chosen.
As evidence for my professional practice module I have to document my progress/experience in the form of a diary so I’ll be using this category of posts for a professional practice blog.
So far I have emailed ten agencies around Manchester, and had a response from one, fingers crossed I’ll be able to spend some time there. I’ll be ringing the others shortly, it’s harder to ignore a phone call ![]()
Tomorrow’s Operating System?
Below is just one of several interactive experiments by Jeff Han a consultant in computer science for New York University. In this particular example Han has done away with the humble keyboard and mouse and created an all together new experience. Although I have never had the opportunity to use one of Han’s interfaces I imagine it to be an inspiring journey, giving even mundane tasks like email checking a new lease of life.
For more work and information about Han check out: http://cs.nyu.edu/~jhan/
There’s more visual delights for you to browse on my Flickr page. Now that I have a pro account I’m finding that I haven’t got enough images to upload, so i’ve been searching through my archive and have posted up some interesting shots from 2006. Don’t forget to leave comments. Enjoy!
Shiny Shiny New Bits
There’s a brand spanking new portfolio section in the pipeline which means no more static blocks wahoo! But don’t get too excited just yet, I have to start making it first so it might be a week or two before you can have a play. And if you thought things couldn’t get any better I’ll be adding a swish new splash page too, meaning that I can finally move my blog into its own section where it belongs! You might want to keep an EYE on it! (That’s a clue by the way ;))
New Project, New Poll… Get Involved ;)
The following poll relates to one of the two briefs I have running in tandem at the moment, both of which are competition briefs so I need your help. You don’t need to log in or anything to take part, just select an option (or several) and hit vote, job done.
On a “what I’ve been looking at lately” note have a gander at; Infosthetics.com it’s interesting in a geeky sort of way showing off some great ideas of presenting information and innovative pieces of design. Plus it gets updated often so there’s lots of new stuff to peruse.
Also have a look at this months Computer Arts magazine, it’s packed with inspiring work you can’t afford to miss and you won’t be disappointed! This magazine is so great I have coughed up a years subscription, it must be good.
Michelle-b goes Pro
My Flickr account has now been upgraded to a pro account.
Finally no 20mb limit per month! I’ll be uploading more images more often. The account has become quite active over the last three months with lots of positive comments and people adding my images as favourites, hopefully that will increase with my new 2gb per month upload limit.
I’d best be off to take more pictures ![]()
